Before the licensing agreement, Lego only created original construction sets. With the popularity of both the Star Wars world and the Lego toys, it was a natural union for both. The licensing agreement opened up the possibilities for Lego and since then, some other popular movies have been licensed with Lego along with Batman, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter.

The first kits released were in conjunction with lesson I: The Phantom Menace in 1999. Three series of sets were released, the ultimate Collectors Series, Mini-sets and Technic Sets. There were troubles with some of the earlier kits with complaints that they were difficult to assemble and fell apart easily. Lego re-released those kits after a redesign. Each movie release since then has seen the corresponding release of some series of new kits.

Lego did not only turn the face of Star Wars but Star Wars changed the face of Lego, literally. Traditionally all of the mini-figs faces in Lego history were yellow in color along with the first year kits. After that, Lego made the faces of the mini-figs in different colors to reflect the color of the actor who portrayed the character in the films.

Star Wars Lego has been so popular that they've entered the video game world. No matter what gaming system you have you can play any of the three games. Lego Star Wars: The Video Game released in 2005. The original Trilogy released in 2006. The complete Saga released in 2007.
